One, two, pick up sticks…

A long weekend escape in our VW camper “Ruby” took us south of the border to the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State this month. A beach holiday habit of mine is collecting and painting driftwood. I always bring my paints on any trip and a found object as beautiful and bountiful as driftwood on the west coast is very attractive in its raw state. The faded and weathered grey and beige tones of the wood and the well-worn and burnished edges of the roots and branches are irresistible ‘canvasses’. I gathered a bundle each day on the beach and even began painting while spending the day at Rialto Beach. Here are some of the trip photos and the results of my compulsion to ‘pick up sticks’.
